Just before Michaelmas term every year, OUCCC set off on a week of training together, terrifying locals, eating continously, and, where possible, throwing the Captain into the sea. That is of course, unless the Captain decides to throw themself in first.
Training Camp 2011
OUCCC training camp 2011 was a scorcher! We had five days of hard training, great weather and building team chemistry. Women’s captain Hayley Munn found us a perfect location at the Frontier Centre in Irthlingborough and although the accommodation was fairly spartan, this give the trip a back to nature feel. On the first full day we were joined by coach Jenny Harris for a session of 5 x 5 mins and this was a success all round. Jenny provided us with a set of excellent new drills before the session and plenty of ice for afterwards. We then headed to the nearby lake to cool down with Henry ‘Michelin Star‘ Mitchell leading us in on the swim.
The second day brought more sunshine and lots more running, a double day for some. The evening was topped off with a Chinese takeaway and an eventful trip to the local pub. Thursday was a really intense tempo run, again in really hot weather, but everyone was running really strong and it was especially good to see new recruit John Holt pushing on the pace at the front. On the whole, a great week and a perfect platform for the season ahead.
